We booked our tickets in the month of October and got a good deal since it was off season to visit Tibet. We had decided to spend two nights in Beijing and three nights in Tibet. The plan was to fly from Beijing to Chengdu and then take a train to Lhasa. We had wanted to go by train but the tickets were sold out for almost a month so we opted for air travel.
The flight which we took from Beijing to Chengdu is called Air China CA 4123 and takes 3 hours 15 minutes. It is a direct flight and has excellent service onboard with food, drinks, magazines etc. The flight time from Chengdu to Lhasa is 2 hours 25 minutes with only one stop at Nyingchi airport for refueling.
The same evening we arrived Chengdu we took a train from Chengdu East station to Lhasa on the Tibet Train which is the longest railway track in the world connecting mainland China with Tibet. It is believed that this track was built for military purposes for easy access into Tibet. The tourism board of China has promoted this route as an easy way of getting into Tibet from mainland China by train and have put up a lot of commercials on TV talking about how this trip will heal you spiritually as well as mentally because
