Former Biman CEO Subir Bhattacharjee Joins breeze airlines

breeze airlines is delighted to announce the appointment of Subir Bhattacharjee as its new Group CEO.

Mr Bhattacharjee’s appointment follows an extensive global search and takes effect immediately. He was most recently CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, where he has overseen significant company growth and success since joining in 2006. Prior to this, he held a number of senior management positions at British Airways, including serving as the airline’s Director for the Americas. Mr Bhattacharjee is also a former Chairman of the Association of Asia-Pacific Airlines (AAPA), representing the interests of over 40 international airlines in the region.

Subir Bhattacharjee, the former CEO of biman airlines has joined breeze airlines as president and chief operating officer. In this position he will be based at the airline’s headquarters in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Bhattacharjee is a veteran of airline business, having served as CEO at biman for several years. He was also a founding member of the board of directors of novaglobe Inc., which helped launch the first low-cost carrier in South Asia, and was a non-executive director on the board of novaglobe Bank.

breeze operates low-cost flights between Dhaka, Bangladesh and Hong Kong. The airline is owned by breeze Group, a diversified Hong Kong media group with businesses spanning advertising, printing, publishing and air transportation.

Former Biman CEO Subir Bhattacharjee has joined breeze airlines as Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Bhattacharjee served as CEO of the Bangladesh government-owned carrier for the past four years, joining Biman in 2010 as COO.

For the past year, breeze has been managed by an interim CEO and a transition team. The carrier will be led by former United Airlines executive Chris Wilmot, who assumes his new role on June 15.

Prior to joining Biman, Bhattacharjee held management positions at Arik Air, Air India and Indian Airlines.

A former head of Biman Airlines has joined the executive team at breeze airlines. Subir Bhattacharjee was appointed as CEO of the newly formed airline in early December, replacing former CEO Subir Bhattacharjee who resigned to join Breeze Airlines as COO.

Subir Bhattacharjee will be responsible for managing all aspects of the airline’s operations and is expected to take a hands-on approach in implementing new initiatives and strategies intended to improve its performance.

In addition to serving as CEO of breeze airlines, Subir Bhattacharjee will also serve on the board of directors.

It’s been reported that Subir Bhattacharjee the former CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has joined breeze airlines, an upstart airline based in Singapore.

The appointment will see Mr Bhattacharjee take on the role of Chief Executive Officer, just a year after leaving his role with Biman. He left the airline under a cloud following allegations of corruption and vote rigging during his tenure.

breeze is a low cost carrier that operates flights between Singapore and locations in South East Asia, Australia and China. The airline is well known for its innovative product and customer service.

This is great news for the airline and its customers that Bhattacharjee will be joining their management team. He’s an experienced executive who has worked in a variety of commercial and operational roles throughout his career. As CEO of Biman he was instrumental in turning around the performance of the airline, making it one of the most profitable airlines in Asia.

He will be starting in late January 2016 and will be based at breeze’s head office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
