We don’t know about you, but for us, the holiday season means it’s time to get out of town.

Whether you’re heading home to see family, meeting friends in a far away city or just looking for a change of scenery, this is the time of year to book your next trip.

The problem is that holiday routes can be pricey and competitive, especially as they sell out fast. Here are a few tips on how to find the best deals:

1) Consider alternate airports

We’ve already covered this one but it bears repeating: you can often save hundreds by flying into secondary airports nearby major cities. Take San Diego as an example. There are two airports, San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Tijuana International Airport (TIJ), which is located in Mexico just across the border from San Diego. If you don’t mind having to cross the border after landing (we’ll get into that later), you can usually save $200–300 by flying into TIJ instead of SAN.

Each week we send out an email to our members highlighting the cheapest flights from the United States, Canada, and Europe.

We find airfare deals up to 60% off.

Our team of travel experts personally inspect each fare to make sure it’s a good deal.

Scott’s Cheap Flights is a newsletter service that finds and sends cheap flights to your inbox.

We started this newsletter because we love to travel, but didn’t have time to look for deals. Now we find them for you!

Scott’s Cheap Flights is a newsletter that finds cheap flights from the United States and Canada. The newsletter was founded by Scott Keyes, who runs the service out of his apartment in San Francisco.

In 2016, Scott’s Cheap Flights sent deals to more than 1 million subscribers. According to Keyes, the service has saved users more than $100 million in airfare. It was featured in Inc., Lifehacker, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

The newsletter has been criticized for sending deals which require users to book within a few hours of their discovery. It’s also been accused of highlighting only select deals that benefit Keyes’ business.

There’s never been a better time to book your dream vacation. Flights are cheap, hotels are affordable and you get to explore the world. But it’s not all good news…

In the last few years we’ve seen an explosion of international travel, and it’s starting to take its toll on the environment.

The good news is that you can make a difference by taking some simple steps on your next trip. Here are our top tips for traveling sustainably:

1) Avoid flying during peak hours — The energy needed to power a plane is directly related to its weight. The heavier the plane, the more fuel it needs to burn to stay in the air. This means that planes that fly during peak hours burn more fuel than those that fly during off-peak hours. Consider flying out in the morning or late afternoon/evening if you can to reduce your CO2 emissions.

2) Pack light — Reducing the weight on an airplane saves fuel and therefore reduces CO2 emissions per passenger. Take only what you need and try to avoid carry-on luggage as much as possible. Also, consider using carbon emissions calculators when packing for trips so you’re aware of how much CO2 you’re emitting and can take steps to reduce it if necessary.
