It’s a Fact: No One Enjoys Waiting in Line at the Airport

A blog about why it’s worth it to book your own tickets, thanks to time savings.

We all know that when it comes to travel, time is money. That is why I always recommend booking your own flights, because it saves you time – so much time.

The other day I had a client who told me she was using her TA for everything and not booking anything herself. It didn’t take long for me to respond with, “are you sure?”

Sure, this might be an example of someone who doesn’t have a lot of travel experience, but sometimes even those who do can forget that there are some things worth considering when booking your own flights.

Here are a few points to consider if your TA is booking your flights:

With the holiday season fast-approaching, there’s no doubt that airports will be flooded with people trying to get to their final destinations. That means you’ll have to deal with the inevitable long lines at security and ticket counters—unless you book your own flight.

You may think booking a flight is difficult, but the process has now been streamlined thanks to online travel sites like Expedia and Travelocity. And since you don’t have to even wait in line anymore, choosing your own flights has become easier than ever.

Here are a few reasons why it’s worth it for you to take control of your flight plans:

• Booking your own flight helps you find better deals on airfare

• With online booking sites, it’s now easier than ever to search for cheap flight tickets.

• Airline booking sites can help you find cheaper airfare alternatives like connecting flights or even different departure times.

• You can add additional services like baggage insurance when you book your own tickets.

• By booking your own tickets, you can avoid long lines at the airport and save time.

It’s a Fact: No One Enjoys Waiting in Line at the Airport.

Tell me if this sounds familiar: You’ve been traveling since the crack of dawn and you’re already 3 hours into your trip. You walk up to the airline counter and there is a sea of people in front of you, all waiting to speak to an agent. The agent is taking her sweet time with each passenger and you can feel your blood pressure rising with every passing minute. After what seems like forever (and a lot of bad language under your breath), it’s finally your turn to talk with the agent—only to find out that your seat was given away because you were 5 minutes late for check-in!

If this scenario causes you to break out in hives, then we have a solution for you: book your own tickets. Your trip could be much smoother when you don’t have to wait in line at the airport or deal with an agent who may not get it right on the first try. Sure, booking your own tickets may seem intimidating at first, but once you get past the learning curve it becomes very easy, and you will save yourself time by eliminating one more line at the airport.

Here are some other

Why do people continue to wait in line at the airport to book their flights? It’s a fact: no one enjoys waiting in line at the airport, especially if you’re travelling with a family.

The time savings are worth it: who wants to spend their vacation time standing in long queues just to book a plane ticket? Booking on your phone or with a travel agent saves you time and gives you access to great deals.

And don’t forget, booking online is environmentally friendly!

Here are some of the reasons why standing in long queues at the airport is an absolute waste of time.

Customers hate waiting in lines at the airport. You’d be lucky to get even a handful of people who say they enjoy it. A recent survey from American Express Global Business Travel found that 49% of business travelers hate waiting in lines more than anything else about travel.

But you don’t need a survey to tell you this. Just look around at the airport and you’ll see unhappy people everywhere:

• Tired parents holding their screaming children;

• People tapping their fingers and looking at their watches;

• Someone yelling at an employee because they missed their flight, costing them money and time;

The list goes on and on. Waiting in line just sucks.

I hate waiting in line too, but I’m going to tell you why it’s worth it to spend an extra 30 minutes booking your own flights instead of relying on the company to do it for you.

If you want to save yourself time and money, you can’t beat booking your own flight.

How much time do you spend booking your tickets? It’s not like the old days where you had to call the travel agent and wait on hold. Online reservations take just minutes, and if you have a trusted site, it’s even easier. But still, there are a few extra steps involved in booking your own ticket, and those can add up.

Find the best deal: You might think that calling a travel agent is the easiest way to get a ticket, but why assume they will find the best price? If you call them right away when planning your trip, they may have already purchased seats on an airplane at a higher price than if you had waited until closer to your departure date. Online sites like Expedia or Kayak let you see all of the flights for your route at once, so you know which airline is offering the best deal at any given time.

You can fly whenever you want: Travel agents don’t always offer flights when it’s convenient for you. If they only sell tickets from one airline, you may be limited in terms of dates and times available for travel. By booking online from multiple

So it’s happened again. You’ve made the trek to the airport, waited in line for your boarding pass, stepped up to the gate and…your flight has been delayed. It happens all the time, but that doesn’t mean you have to like it.

Not only is your entire schedule thrown off track, but you also end up spending more time at the airport than you bargained for. And when there are fewer hours in the day than you hoped for, it can feel like an eternity waiting for your flight to take off.
