Ukraine Visas: Most visitors to Ukraine must obtain a visa in advance. Ukrainian tourist and business visas are generally valid for stays of up to three months. A visa is not required for visits of up to 90 days a year. Some categories of travelers can stay in Ukraine without a visa for up to 180 days a year, but these rules are subject to change.
Note that if you do not arrive from an EU country or the United States, you must hold a valid multi-entry visa for the country of your next destination.
Entry Requirements: Canadian citizens using Canadian passports must have a visa to enter Ukraine. All other passports must consult the Embassy of Ukraine to verify entry requirements (see Contact Information).
Ukrainian citizens can enter Canada with their Ukrainian passport, if they also have a Canadian permanent resident card, or if they have applied for one before entering Canada. Upon arrival in Canada, they can request refugee protection or apply for permanent residence on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. Note that foreigners who hold only Ukrainian citizenship cannot enter Canada using their Ukrainian passports if they do not also hold Canadian permanent resident status or have applied for it before arriving in Canada.
While a visa is not required for US citizens to visit Ukraine, you must have a passport that is valid for at least 90 days after the date of your departure from Ukraine. A visa is required for longer stays.
If flying into Ukraine from another country, make sure that you have obtained the necessary visas for that country as well. There are also several countries that require you to obtain a transit visa for passing through them on your way to Ukraine. The US State Department website provides travel advisories and information concerning visa requirements for most countries in the world.

The standard tourist/visitor visa is valid for 30 days. The visa can be extended up to 90 days in total, but you will have to leave the country in between and then re-enter on a new visa.
If you plan to stay longer than that, you need to apply for a residency permit. The usual procedure is that you get a temporary residency permit (for one year maximum) first and then after the end of this period you can apply for permanent residency.
To apply for a temporary permit, you must prove that you have sufficient funds (min $300 per month) or an employment contract. You must also have health insurance valid in Ukraine.
Once your temporary residency permit expires, you can apply for permanent residency if you can prove that your stay in Ukraine has been legal and continuous for at least 5 years, or 3 years if married to a Ukrainian citizen.

You cannot apply
A visa is an official entry stamp into the Ukraine. It gives you permission to enter, and how long you can stay.
Visas come in two types: one-entry, which allows you to enter just once; and multiple-entry, which allows you to enter, then leave and re-enter again during the period of validity (i.e. for the maximum number of days).
You can get a visa at a Ukrainian Consulate before arriving in Ukraine. But if you need to extend your stay or change category, then you have to exit Ukraine and re-enter on a new visa.
Ukraine Visa is required for most of the foreign nationals who want to visit Ukraine. To get a Visa you need to apply to an Ukrainian consulate and provide some necessary documents.
The whole process of Visa issuing can take from several days up to one month if your application is not approved in first time or there are some mistakes in your documents.
There are two main types of Visa for Ukraine:
Tourist visa for a stay less than 90 days;
Business visa (which allow multiple entries) for a stay less than 90 days;
Once you have entered Ukraine, you should register your visa with the Office of Vital Statistics, Migration and Passports within 3 days. The registration should be done at the place where you are staying. Once this step is completed, you will receive a certificate of registration. It is advisable to keep this certificate with you at all times as it may be demanded by the police.
