Summer has arrived in New York City and that can only mean one thing: It is time to get out of town. I make this pilgrimage every summer and it never gets old. The Hamptons are the perfect combination of sun, surf, sand and sophistication.
This year’s first trip was a smashing success. I was lucky enough to be invited to stay at the home of my dear friends Rufus and Mimi Hawthorne. Their home is a perfect example of classic Nantucket architecture. Soaring ceilings, a beautiful sun room, multiple terraces and an incredible view of the water all combine to create a truly idyllic setting for a perfect weekend away from the city.
Rufus and Mimi are great hosts who really know how to entertain their guests in true Hamptons style. Friday night we relaxed on the deck with cocktails before heading out to dinner at The Surf Club, one of our favorite restaurants in Water Mill. Dinner was delicious – I had the salmon which was perfectly complement by the complimentary Pinot Grigio we were served upon arrival. After dinner we returned home for some nightcaps by the fire before calling it a night.
Saturday morning we slept in – something I rarely do – before heading out for a day at
