The Basics: How to Book the Cheapest Round-trip Ticket?

One of the most common questions I get on my blog is “Is it really cheaper to book a round-trip ticket?” A lot of people just assume it’s cheaper and never even check. Sometimes that’s true, but often not.

There are a few ways to determine if booking two one-way tickets is cheaper than booking a round-trip flight. First, use an online travel search engine like Kayak or Google Flights and search for both a one-way ticket and a round-trip ticket. You can also use this trick in reverse—booking two separate one-way flights that are actually part of one larger itinerary.

If you find yourself in this situation, book the two segments separately by searching for only the first leg of your trip, then repeating the process for the second leg. The second leg will be cheaper because you’re not booking a return flight. It won’t be as cheap as if you had booked that same segment on its own, but it will still be cheaper than booking a round trip from city A to city B with the connection in city C. This method works because many airlines price each flight segment

Booking a flight ticket is not easy. It’s so complicated that it could be daunting for a casual traveler. It requires some airline know-how and lots of internet research.

The good news is that you can book the cheapest round-trip ticket if you follow some tips and tricks:

Do a thorough online search.

Websites like Travelocity, Expedia or Kayak allow you to compare airline ticket prices between several airlines. They also offer attractive packages such as accommodation and rental car deals, but they won’t always find the cheapest flights. The best thing to do is to visit each website individually and compare prices. Some airline companies have loyalty programs that allow you to earn points or miles every time you purchase an airline ticket from them, which can help you get bigger discounts in the future.

Check out budget airlines such as Jetstar Asia for cheaper airfare tickets. However, these budget airlines usually charge exorbitant rates for luggage and beverages during the flight.

Look for less popular travel dates.

The first question that usually comes up when buying a plane ticket is: “When are we going?” The best answer to this question is: “On Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays”. It’s during these days that tickets are cheapest

What is a round-trip ticket?

A round-trip ticket is basically a ticket which allows you to fly from your origin city to your destination city and then back to the origin city again. It’s also known as a return ticket.

Why do you need it?

The majority of airlines don’t allow one-way tickets and will charge you quite a bit more for it. That’s why if you plan to fly somewhere and then come back, you should always book a round-trip ticket.
