Forget about the non-stop flights from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia which takes 17 hours and 50 minutes. A new contender is on it’s way. Singapore Airlines will be launching a 19 hour flight between Singapore and New York City on October 11th, 2018. The round-trip flight will be the longest commercial flight in the world so far.

Singapore Airlines’ new route will connect the Changi Airport in Singapore with Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. The route will be serviced by an Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

The new route will offer a total of 161 seats – 67 in Business Class and 94 in Premium Economy and Economy class cabins. The Business Class seats are fully flatbed seats with direct aisle access for every passenger. In Premium Economy, there are 24 seats arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration, while Economy includes 94 seats that are also arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration.

Singapore Airlines’ new flight is just 1 hour longer than Qatar Airways’ flight from Doha, Qatar to Auckland, New Zealand (18 hours 40 minutes). It will take over from Qantas’s Perth to London route as the longest non-stop commercial flight (17 hours 20 minutes).

The world’s longest non-stop flight has landed in Australia after a 16,200km (10,100 mile) journey from New York.

Qantas flight QF7879 took 19 hours and 16 minutes to reach Sydney, carrying 50 passengers and crew.

The airline is considering regular non-stop services between major cities.

“This has been a truly historic flight that opens up a new era of travel,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.

The flight was the first passenger service from New York or London to Sydney without refuelling stops.

It used a specially configured Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that can fly 4,600 nautical miles (8,520km; 5,280 miles) with 236 passengers on board.
