While most people can’t afford to live on the beach, a few can. Many of us enjoy the ocean view from our vacation rental or our weekend getaway at the beach, but we still have to go back to our “real” lives in other places.

But what if you could live on the beach and make a living there? The good news is that you can — if you know where to look for an affordable place to live by the sea.

These days, fewer of us are choosing to put down roots in a single place, and many are choosing instead to become global citizens. Some have retired from careers in one location and moved abroad in search of an inexpensive place to live out their retirement years by the sea. Others have decided that they would like to live abroad but don’t want to give up working; these people either work remotely for an employer or self-employ themselves as digital nomads.

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not necessary to be rich or even upper middle class in order to live overseas. There are many affordable places in the world where you can easily afford a comfortable lifestyle without breaking the bank — and some of them may surprise you!
