Aviation's Significant Economic and Employment Benefits in Egypt

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released a study highlighting the substantial economic and employment benefits of aviation in Egypt.

Aviation generates USD 21.1 billion of economic activity in Egypt, equivalent to 5.3% of the country's GDP.

This economic activity includes direct employment of airline staff, wider supply chain spending, and tourism activities.

1.4 million jobs are supported across the supply chain, including tourism, making aviation a critical role in Egypt's employment landscape.

32,800 jobs are directly employed by airlines in Egypt.

Air cargo handling contributes to Egypt's GDP, with 338,600 tonnes handled in 2023.

The Egyptian government is using aviation as a strategic enabler for economic and social development.

The government aims to further expand aviation's benefits to Egypt through collaboration with IATA.

IATA has identified three key priorities for Egypt to maximize aviation's benefits: cost-efficiency, sustainability, and capacity-building.

A strong and skilled aviation workforce is critical to growing aviation's benefits, and the government should invest in technical operations and digital transformation.
