You’ve heard the advice before: Always wait until the last minute to book your holiday flights. However, that advice may not be as sound as you think. After all, it’s not really in an airline’s best interest for you to buy tickets early. The truth is, there are a lot of different factors to consider when booking airfare for the holidays, including timing, seasonality, and when airlines are likely to raise prices. Read on for our tips on when you should book your holiday travel.
The holiday season is just around the corner, and many travelers are already planning their trips. Skyscanner wanted to know when travelers should book their holiday flights this year in order to save on airfare.
Skyscanner conducted a study to find out when to book holiday flights for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. The study found that booking Thanksgiving flights 16 weeks in advance will help travelers save on airfare. As for Christmas, the best time to book was 10 weeks prior. For New Year’s Eve, the results were a little more complicated – travelers saved money by booking 53 days in advance, but last-minute deals were also available.
The Skyscanner team analyzed historical flight data from popular destinations across the U.S., including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. They looked at data from 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 seasons to determine ideal booking dates for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve travel. For each holiday, they compared airfare costs based on different advanced booking times to find out when travelers could save the most money.
It’s a well-worn axiom that travel is cheaper mid-week, but a new study from the search engine Momondo has found this to be true for holiday flights. The research showed that the lowest fares for U.S. domestic flights are available on Tuesdays, while the cheapest international fares are on Wednesdays. When it comes to purchasing tickets for Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year’s Eve trips, the report found that U.S.-bound travelers could save as much as 34 percent by booking on the first Wednesday of September—that’s today!
The study examined data from more than 1 million flights across 350 routes over a period of two years, which revealed that booking at least three weeks ahead of time can save you money, too. As far as travel days go, in addition to being cheaper, Tuesday and Wednesday were also deemed “the most punctual” days of travel by the study.
The Halloween season has arrived and it is time to start thinking about what costume you are going to wear this year. It is often tempting to go out and buy a costume at the local retail store but there are some good reasons why you should consider making your own Halloween costume.
For one thing, if you make your own costume you will be able to create something original that no one else will have. You can use something you already have and add a few accessories or you can make the entire thing from scratch. Making your own costume will give a greater sense of ownership and pride than using something pre-made.
If you want to really stand out from the crowd this year, consider making your own homemade Halloween costume. Not only will it be unique but it will also save you money in the long run as many costumes end up being worn just once.
