In response to two recent general aviation accidents that made national headlines, over 5,000 pilots have joined the “National Pause for General Aviation Safety.” This six-month campaign, launched in April 2025 by the Air Safety Institute, urges GA pilots to slow down, refocus, and maybe—just maybe—stop flying into trouble. The initiative, backed by the FAA and 22 other aviation organizations, aims to promote safety and reduce the risk of accidents in general aviation. The campaign encourages pilots to take a moment to review their procedures, check their aircraft, and ensure they are flying within their capabilities.
Pilot Training and Certification
Several aviation schools and colleges have signed agreements to provide credit transfer opportunities for pilots trained at these institutions. For example, Epic Flight Academy and Seminole State College of Florida (SSC) have partnered to enable pilots trained at Epic to transfer their certifications as college credit hours toward a degree at SSC. A maximum of 27 credits can be applied toward an Associate degree, which is a significant advantage for pilots looking to advance their careers. This partnership highlights the importance of pilot training and certification. By providing opportunities for pilots to transfer their credits, these institutions can help pilots continue their education and advance their careers, while also promoting safety and reducing the risk of accidents.
Aviation Organizations Support Safety Initiatives
Several aviation organizations have joined forces to support the “National Pause for General Aviation Safety” campaign. These organizations include the FAA, ALPA Canada, and WestJet Airlines. ALPA Canada, in particular, has been working closely with pilot leadership at WestJet and WestJet Encore to hinder management’s efforts to hire pilots through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
