International Flights in Economy Can Get You Around the World for Under $1000

Traveling around the world in economy class doesn’t come with a lot of perks. But if you’re on a budget, flying to an exotic location across the world may be more affordable than you think. Here’s how to do it for under $1,000.

Find a Cheap Fare. The easiest way to find cheap fares is by using an online search engine like Kayak or Google Flights. Both allow you to search multiple airlines at once and filter your results based on things like price, departure time, and layover time.

If you’re willing to travel during off-peak times (usually during the week), Google Flights will even tell you the cheapest time to fly. If you don’t have a particular destination in mind, use Google’s “I’m feeling lucky” option to get inspiration for your next trip.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to travel internationally. Here are our best tips for flying around the world in economy and staying under $1000.

Traveling internationally is often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You can do it now, even if you’re not rich.

We’ve all heard the horror stories of people buying cheap tickets on low cost international airlines only to have their bags lost, or to be stuck in a middle seat for over 24 hours. The truth is, for many routes you can fly around the world for less than $1000. This isn’t one of those ‘I did it once’ stories, but rather a guide to finding great prices and flying around the world in economy class.

Using this guide, I flew from the United States to Indonesia and back, via Europe, Africa and South America – all on budget airlines and all for under $1000. I didn’t skimp on comfort or spend more than 5 hours in transit at any point. If you take my advice you’ll be able to do the same thing.

If you have been following this blog for a while, you know that I’ve been trying to get around the world for under $1000. I was pretty sure that I could book a round-the-world ticket for less than $1000, but I didn’t think that it would be possible to fly around the world for under $1000 in economy class. That is until now!

The longest flight on my round-the-world trip from Washington, DC to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is just over 12 hours long. Based on what I found when doing research for this post, I decided to see if it would be possible to fly from Washington, DC to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and back in economy class for under $500.

I was able to find several flights for around $400. For example:

Washington Dulles to London Gatwick – Icelandair – $263.30

London Gatwick to Kuala Lumpur – Airasia – $138.10

Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong – Airasia – $74.00

Hong Kong to Washington Dulles – Qatar Airways – $243.50

“Book my ticket” a series of posts describing how I travel around the world for under $1000.

I’m always looking for ways to save money on international flights. After all, the more I spend on flights, the less I have to spend on exploring once I get to my destination.

I recently came across two great sites that allow you to book a round-the-world ticket. What’s great about these sites is that you don’t need to be a millionaire or a travel agent or even have a passport in order to use them. You can go online, decide where you want to go and book your ticket. If you’re not interested in traveling around the world, but just want a cheap flight from one city to another, they will help you out with that as well.

The first site is called Round The World Experts and offers several different RTW ticket packages ranging from $999 – $1999 and up depending upon how many continents you want to visit, how many stops you want along the way and what level of service you desire (economy or business).

The second site is called AirTreks, who also offer a variety of RTW ticket options depending upon what type of traveler you are (i.e., luxury, independent, student) as well as how many destinations (points) you would like to visit along the way.
