vacations

The average person’s vacation time is around twenty days a year. The average person spends about three days getting to and from their vacation destination. This means that for roughly one sixth of your annual leave you’re spending it travelling.

Is that really how you want to be spending your precious free time? Let’s say you take two trips per year, each lasting five days. That means you spend nearly half of your vacation waiting in airports, riding in crowded planes, or stuck on buses or trains. And those are the lucky ones, if we’re talking international travel then you could well end up spending more time than that just trying to get there.

I think we can all agree that travelling is not fun. It might be necessary for work or other reasons, but it’s still a huge time sink. I’m not sure why people have developed this almost romantic notion that going on vacation always involves travel. You do not need to travel to take a break from your daily routine; in fact you can do that right at home by taking some time off work and staying home for a few days.

In the next decade or two, cheap air travel will probably bring about a new kind of vacation: vacations that are just a continuous party.

You will be able to go to a tropical island for a month and spend almost every night getting drunk in a different bar with different people from all over the world. The bars will all have names like “The Happy Monkey” and “The Wild Parrot,” and the drinks will all have names like “The Flaming Volcano” and “The Spicy Banana,” and there’ll be bands playing reggae or calypso or soca, or a combination of all three. You might even learn to dance.

Perhaps you will discover that you are a born dancer. Or perhaps you will discover that you aren’t. Whichever it is, it won’t matter, because no one there will know or care who you are, or what you’re supposed to be good at, or how well you live up to your potential. For once in your life you will be free to be bad at something without feeling stupid about it.

In the summer of 1996, I was a young software engineer in a hurry. My girlfriend had just moved to Chicago, and I wanted to visit her.

But there was a problem.

I’d left my California driver’s license at home, so I needed a passport to fly. And getting one meant standing in line at the Post Office. The only problem was that it was the middle of the day on a weekday, and I was supposed to be busy writing software.

“Well,” said my boss, “we can’t let you do that.” He then solved the problem by suggesting that I skip work for an hour to go get my passport.

His solution took me aback for two reasons. First, I had never thought it would be possible to skip work for personal reasons and get away with it; in previous jobs my bosses would have been furious if I’d tried such a thing. Second, it never occurred to me that there might be something wrong with skipping work for personal reasons; as far as I could tell, all adults did things like that more or less constantly.

Traveling is a very popular hobby among people of all ages and different walks of life. Needless to say, traveling provides an individual with a unique opportunity to get acquainted with interesting people and cultures, whereas some trips may change one’s life completely.

Such trips are, of course, very expensive and require a considerable amount of time, so the idea itself does not sound very realistic for majority of people. However, there is an excellent alternative to classical traveling – air travel. Air travel is not cheaper than going abroad by car or train; however, it has many other advantages.

First of all, it takes much less time than any other means of transport. For example, if you want to get from New York City to London by car (which seems like an impossible task), it will take you 3-4 days at least. As for the train or bus, the journey will take you 2-3 days at least. Air travel is probably the fastest mean of transport nowadays and allows you to reach your destination in 6-7 hours only.

Secondly, air travel is undoubtedly the safest means of transport as compared with others. It is well known that flying in a plane is much safer than driving a car or going on a train trip. The statistics show that only

If you like air travel, you might find some aspects of the experience stressful.

There are so many things to worry about when flying, from the quality of your taxi service from the airport to your hotel to the number of in-flight movies.

But don’t let all these concerns overwhelm you. The best way to keep your stress levels at a minimum is to regularly practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and muscle relaxation. You should also try to stay physically active. Daily exercise can help reduce stress.

If you know you are at risk for high blood pressure on planes, ask your doctor if it’s OK for you to take an antihypertensive medication before boarding the plane. This can help prevent increased blood pressure due to altitude changes in flight and help you relax during your trip.

If air travel is making you feel anxious, consider taking an anti-anxiety medication before your flight. Your doctor can recommend one that’s right for you and discuss its possible side effects and any interactions with other medications you may be taking.

The key to building a great company is to maximize the total number of decisions you can make, almost all of which must be good decisions.

The most common mistake I see founders make is to think that they’re going to succeed by making fewer, bigger bets. The foundation of any great company is a large number of good decisions.

It’s also not about being lucky, although luck helps. It’s just hard to make a hundred good decisions in a row. But if you can manage it, it’ll be more valuable than winning the lottery.

The more you know about the way airlines set their fares, the more confident you can be that the lowest published fare is the best buy. If you want to save money on airfares and know how to find the best deal, read on.

The cost of an airline ticket is determined by many factors, including market demand, airline costs, competition, government regulation and computerized yield management systems. Yield management has become a major factor in recent years as airlines use sophisticated computer programs to optimize revenue from each flight through variable pricing. The idea is simple: Airlines will increase or decrease the price of a ticket depending on how full a flight is. It’s supply and demand at its finest.
